Originally worn by bold, fashionable women in the 1920s like Coco Chanel and actresses like Katherine Hepburn, Greta Garbo, and Marlene Dietrich in the 1930s, Palazzo pants were reminiscent of the wide-legged & cuffed pants worn by avant-garde fashion enthusiasts previously.

Their popularity, however, came in the 1960s. Rebelling women wore palazzo pants to surpass the ban on women wearing pants in restaurants at the time. Since then, palazzos have always been in vogue.
